Leptokarya is a coastal town that administratively belongs to the Municipality of Dion-Olympus, being a homonymous Municipal Community. According to the 2011 Census, Leptokarya has a permanent population of 3,700 inhabitants and is 26 km far from the capital of the prefecture of Katerini.

The inhabitants are engaged in tourism and the cultivation of the Earth.

It is one of the most popular tourist destinations during the summer months, attracting about 3,500 tourists. It also has one of the best seas in Greece, having been awarded the Blue Flag.
